Everyone wants to know about the alkaline diet, all thanks to one little tweet from Victoria Beckham. The fashion icon says she loves the Honestly Healthy Cookbook, which provides recipes that help people change their pH levels to reduce the acidity in their bodies.
“Love this healthy eating cookbook,” Beckham tweeted last month, alongside an image of the book’s cover.
The Honestly Healthy Cookbook was written by Natasha Corrett and helps people lose weight while continuing to eat the foods they love, but through recipes that keep alkaline levels in mind and decrease the body’s acidic levels. This also helps to reduce the risk of disease.
The alkaline eating plan involves getting rid of refined sugars from your diet and using alternatives like honey, agave and coconut palm sugar. Seventy percent of all food consumed on the diet should be raw, and all cow dairy should be replaced with alkaline dairy like sheep and goat milk. Protein should not be over-consumed, and dieters should drink hot water with lemon every morning to increase alkaline levels.
“The thing we really want to stress as much as possible is that this is not a diet — it’s a healthy way of eating,” Corrett said. “The whole reason for creating it was to get out of faddy diets. The alkaline eating plan is about getting your body into the optimum state it can be in — and alkaline is healthier than acidic. When your body is alkaline you have clear skin, greater concentration, shiny hair — all the things you want, with the bonus of weight loss.”
There is also an alkaline meal service available from the Honestly Healthy company.
